July Ended on a High Note at the Legendary Buffalo Chip

Get yourself ready for a Sturgis party like no other. The campers have rolled in and the riders are here – Its Party time! The weekend began with the Classic Rock All Stars, Mark Farner formerly of Grand Funk Railroad and South Dakota favorites Kory and the Fireflies. The opening day at the Buffalo Chip started out warming up to a balmy sixty five degrees – just long enough to head out of the tent and grab hold of some breakfast. Shortly after, the main goal was holding down everything in sight. The South Dakota weather, true to nature, did a one eighty and caught a few campers off guard. The awnings left up and camp chairs left out found themselves a new home – like the fence of the South 40 RV Park.

The weather didn’t hold off the riders. They were gearing up for a great day to ride the Black Hills and get reacquainted with old friends and make a few new ones. It’s fun to hear the stories and see the camps that have made their way into Buffalo Chip history. The groups of friends like The Barrachos and Camp RunAMuck make the party more like a family reunion than anything.

Vendors were making the final touches in order to be ready. The trolley had its first run today with Woody giving a tour of the campground for great friends and fans. The smells are aplenty from the great food served up by Buffalo Chip vendors like Santa Lucia, Dominoes, Sturgis Rider Café, Taco Bell, Chubby Churro’s and Stage West Café. Top Shelf Lounge had its grand opening – Guitar Hero Challenge qualified players for 2010 Rally Passes and of course, the hottest bartenders in Sturgis were serving up the beverages.

The media team was running around getting the insiders scoop and ran into Mark Farner the former lead singer of Grand Funk Railroad. He was kind enough to stop up to Radio Row and get on the air with the jocks and then we saw him again at the fan meet and greet – He was a genuine character that had no problem talking to his fans or stopping for a photo opp on his way back to the backstage compound. Just a note of useless info - we have him pictured in three different shirts. I guess, the life of a lead singer requires a dressing room larger than …. … (we’ll leave that open for reader comments).

Check our Flickr account for a few pictures from the day – Enjoy! And as Woody says: “Ride Safe, Take Risks and we’ll see your smiling faces” soon. Ride Safe everyone.
